Blessings

Proverbs 16:24

Kind words are like honey – sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.

Over the last 35 years Dr. Mathis has been preaching from the word. And while there are any number of people who have no problem tooting their own horn, we think it is far better to share with you what others have said about Dean’s ministry over the years.
.
The comments below were penned by members of Taylor Memorial Baptist Church as well as other ministers around the state of New Mexico and all over the United States. Not mere self-promotion, we want you to know how important it is to be taught by someone ‘rightly dividing the word of truth,’ (2 Timothy 2:15) it will be a blessing to you.
.
This small sample of words of blessing from others who have been taught by Dr. Mathis is presented to assure you that following Hungry for the Word ‘will explain to him (you) the way of God more accurately.’ (Acts 18:26b).

“There is gratitude for my deepened faith because God planted me at TMBC and I could sit at the feet of a mighty shepherd of the word of the Lord and learn more of God.  I flip through my Bible today and see notation after notation marked from Pastor Dean’s sermons…” Nancy Etier
“I have been a Christian since childhood but your teaching taught me so much about my faith that I had never known…”  Ron Black
“Dean…Most of all I want to say thank you for staying true to the word and teaching us and instructing us weekly.” June Canfield
“You have fed us on the Word year after year.  Our children still say you are the best preacher they have ever heard…” Janice Warford
“I often got tapes of your sermons to share with my sons…I personally have learned and grown so much from sermons in the ‘clean’ part of my Bible to the little book of Jude, I have heard from God through you.” Jon and Alicia Martin
“When I first came to Hobbs and began to listen to your teachings, I realized that you had and inside track with my Heavenly Father and that He was going to use you to speak to me.  I have written you several times thanking you for a certain sermon and have been amazed that sometimes I got a completely different message from anyone else… I could see those historical Biblical places as you talked about them and the Scriptures were so alive…”  Mary Grace Roberson
“We love your preaching – you make things so clear We understand what you are saying.  The last few Sunday evening messages have been wonderful…”  Gary and Clydell Stiles
“Nothing we’ve attended, though, equaled the just completed series on the (book of ) Revelation.  My dad (Marj again) used to read from Revelation in our daily devotions and it scared us, so I avoided that part of the Bible for years.  So is was a blessing to be in the study.  I don’t think we missed a single session…” J.T. and Marjorie Ray
“The sermon ‘What Do You Do When Your Donkeys Run Off” has special meaning for us in many ways. The first time we heard it was the day after our neighbor’s three horses and one donkey had escaped their pasture and went playing in the highway until all of us took after them and recaptured them…” Linda and Billy Powell
“Thank you for your faithfulness to God’s word, the church at Taylor and all you have done in keeping us informed about the political needs of our state and country…” Bobbye Bond
“Sunday after Sunday I have looked forward to the sermons you bring us and I have not been disappointed…” Faye Klein
“I thank the Lord for leading us to Taylor where we could be under your teaching and preaching. We both have been Christians for a number of years but have felt that we have grown more during the time you served as our pastor than all the years before…I know from your teaching and what the Bible says that I am seated in Heavenly Places even though it doesn’t always feel that way…” Mary and Bob Roach

“I was in college when you came but I will never forget your teaching/preaching ministry, your encouragement and serving as an intern in the summer”
Pam Patterson Nicholson, Associate Pastor of Ministries, the Heights Baptist Church, Richardson, Texas

“We have many good memories of our time at Taylor. Among them are your sermons (I especially enjoyed your ‘first person’ presentations); countless classes you taught, including the one on Revelation…and a great education in the Bible and Jewish history.” Cathy and Larry Chapman

“Dean, your messages were always true to the Gospel. We appreciate the time and prayerfulness you gave to prepare them.” Dr. Ed and Mary Burke

“We both feel that we grew spiritually more during our six years there at Taylor than anytime before or since then. You let God speak through you, Dean, in a way that suited the needs of each individual heart. Scripture came alive!” Bob and Betty Mooney

“You blessed my ministry and I always thanked God for you. From the first night we visited in the parking lot at Taylor Memorial …,when you offered to carry a recommendation to the state convention to the last year of my work you were always eager to prosper the Lord’s work in our state. No pastor ever encouraged me more. I want to thank you for all the encouragement and mentoring you provided.” Lee Black, former director of the New Mexico Baptist Foundation

“Dr. Dean, may precious deceased Bob enjoyed hearing you preach and teach. Every sermon or lesson was filled with God’s word, current history and events of the time, and geography all in one. Your wide range of knowledge of the Bible and high intellect encouraged, challenged, and inspired him and me both. When we moved to Tennessee, Bob had a hard time because he missed the quality of your sermons.” Carolyn Weaver

“That brings me to the very point I want to stress and that is, because of you, I know the Lord. When I came to TMBC I was what I’d call and “roller coaster” Christian, lots of emotional highs and lows, periods of coasting and a few of hard work. The Lord used you to give me a firm foundation in knowledge of Himself and His word. That made all the difference in my life.” Alicia Branham Trujillo

“Dean I can’t even begin to tell you how your teaching has enriched my family and how my children look forward to hearing your messages when they are home. Rusty has enjoyed your preaching so much and appreciated your prayers on his behalf. As for me, I have learned so much from you and can never repay you for the depth of comprehension you have imparted. Your knowledge of history, the Bible, culture, apologetics, eschatology, science, politics, and Israel; along with being articulate and intelligent; and having a love for people, and the lost, is truly a rare combination. I pray that you will continue to bless others (particularly the next generation) with your teaching through your website and other opportunities.” Carol Barrett

“Dean, we’ve been so fortunate to have had you as our pastor, teacher and friend for the last 25 years. We’ve been so blessed with the Biblical history you’ve shared with us throughout the years. It’s been an awesome trip with you each Sunday morning, Sunday evening, and on Wednesday nights. You’ve brought God’s truths and promises to us in ways that’s made it an adventure. You’ve taken us so many places that we may never walk personally but felt like we’ve been there even though we’ve never left Hobbs, NM.” Tony and Barbara Summers

“Neil and I knew our search for a new church was over the first time we heard you preach. We ALWAYS learned something new from every sermon or class. Neil is a lover of history, like you, and always looks forward to the way you place scripture into the events of its day. It really makes God’s word come alive. It also shows just how much it still applies to us today… We both appreciate your boldness in teaching the “whole” of God’s truth. I love that you are unafraid to tackle the unpopular and politically correct issues. We are now a bold congregation. I’ve seen members of our church stand for God publicly with no hesitation. I know this is a direct result of your teaching. This is a gift to all of us. You’ve helped prepare us to stand, even while warning of the consequences… no mean feat. Words can’t really express how you have deepened our walk with God, and drawn us to study His Word.” Neil and Virginia Abernathy

“We hold a special place in our hearts for you, brother Dean, your Bible teaching has taken us even deeper into God’s word.” Ed and Pam Davis
