For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not in cleverness of speech, so that the cross of Christ would not be made void.For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written,

“I WILL DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE, AND THE CLEVERNESS OF THE CLEVER I WILL SET ASIDE.” (1 Corinthians 1:17-19)

Dr. Mathis has been active in speaking since he was licensed to preach by the First Baptist Church of Eunice, New Mexico, at age 16. He put himself through college preaching youth revivals, and banquets.

A Bible teacher at three universities, Dr. Mathis also lead temperament seminars for the Hobbs New Mexico police academy, Taylor Memorial Baptist church, and other churches around the country. He also leads seminars on Christ centered counseling and the principles of victorious Christian living as well as revivals teaching God’s word across the United States, including occasions overseas.

Senior pastor for thirty six years of the Taylor Memorial Baptist Church in Hobbs, New Mexico; his speaking is known for its precision, practicality, humor, historical accuracy, powerful apologetics, prophetic insight, and scholarly fidelity. Dr. Mathis is available to churches for pulpit supply preaching, interim pastoring, revivals, Bible conferences, retreats, and seminars on marriage, counseling, Biblical prophecy,or any chosen Biblical topic.

Invitations are accepted regardless of the size of the church or group requesting a speaker. It is requested that travel expense (current IRS mileage by auto, round trip from Lansing, Michigan, or round trip air fare from Lansing or Detroit, Michigan, whichever is feasible), and lodging be covered. Gratuity or honorarium can be cared for by a freewill (love) offering in a church setting, or negotiated arrangement at the time of booking. In a church setting the pastor will be in charge of the freewill (love) offering. The request is to simply remember that the speaker’s income depends on how God leads his people to give. If travel, lodging, offering or gratuity is a problem with a church or group, this can be negotiated and a solution reached before the meeting.
